AMANAH communications director Khalid Abdul Samad was attacked by up to 20 men in Kuala Terengganu last night, said Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad.

The Terengganu party chairman said Khalid, who is also Shah Alam MP, was not hurt as he got into his vehicle in time.

“Yes, we were supposed to have an outdoor event in Kuala Terengganu, but we cancelled it because of the spread of Covid -19. We then decided to go live on Facebook to talk about the current political scenario.

“After two hours, the FB livestream ended and we left the Amanah building, where 15 to 20 men suddenly showed up. They hurled abusive remarks at us, but they were targeting Khalid.

“He managed to get into the car and he went straight to the nearest police station. The men were aggressive and hostile.

“Luckily, Khalid got into the car in time.”

Efforts to reach Khalid proved unsuccessful, but it is learnt that he is on his way back to Selangor.

Raja Kamarul said the mob then waited for the former Federal Territories minister outside the district police station.

Asked whether he knows the attackers, the former deputy housing and local government minister said he suspects that the group is part of a “viral political party”.

“The men followed Khalid and they waited for him at the gate of the police station. It shows how big-headed these people are.

“We know who they are, some of them are familiar faces,” he said, without mentioning names.

“They shouted at us, telling us not to touch on their Tok Guru, so we know who they are.

“They have been in power for just two weeks and are already showing that they are above the law. This is a dangerous sign. They do not fear the authorities, that is very clear.”

A police source in Kuala Terengganu confirmed that a report has been lodged and a probe is under way. – March 14, 2020.
