9 new Covid-19 cases as Malaysia bars entry to visitors from Denmark

PUTRAJAYA has decided to bar entry to travellers from Denmark, effective March 14, as the Ministry of Health reports nine new cases of Covid-19 today.

“Malaysians, permanent residents and long-term pass holders arriving from Denmark will be required to undergo a 14-day home quarantine,” said Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Redzuan Md Yusof, after chairing the Covid-19 Cluster meeting.

Malaysians were also advised to postpone travel to the country if there is no urgency.

He said the measure was decided after taking into account factors such as the outbreak entering its second wave in Malaysia and the lockdown in Denmark.

Other measures discussed will be brought to the prime minister for his consideration, before implementation, he said after the meeting attended by chief secretaries and directors-general of ministries.

The government will ban incoming travel from Iran, South Korea and Italy effective tomorrow.

Globally, more than 126,000 people have been infected and 4,630 more have died so far.

The World Health Organisation yesterday declared Covid-19 a pandemic.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Health reported the country now has 158 reported infections, of which 32 people have recovered.

The ministry noted three of those infected were sporadic cases or infection within the community, where the person has no travel history to affected countries or known close contact with others infected. – March 12, 2020.
