PAN-Malaysian Islamic party (PAS) president Abdul Hadi Awang launched a scathing attack on PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), calling it a rudderless political party without a clear leader even as the party of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad claims that they are in talks with the Islamic party.

Hadi said because of these reasons, PAS has decided not to have any ties with Bersatu.

“Pribumi has no direction. We also do not know who is the imam (the leader) or who is the makmum (followers). So PAS has decided not to have any ties with Pribumi,” Hadi said during a press conference on the sidelines of the PAS general assembly in Alor Star today.

Hadi’s comments come as Bersatu leaders such as its deputy Mukhriz Mahathir said that his party is still open to talks with PAS. – April 29, 2017.

Bersatu, along with the rest of PH, is hoping to forge an electoral pact with PAS to avoid multi-candidate fights in the next general election.

PAS has formed a third coalition called Gagasan Sejahtera after falling out with former Opposition ally DAP. The party is expected to consider cutting off ties with its remaining partner PKR at this assembly.

Hadi also criticised the DAP for being chauvinist party, claiming that the latter was opposed to PAS’ agenda.

“They bring a race-based chauvinist agenda and they do not respect other communities. This is against out struggles.” – April 29, 2017.
