Anwar likely to lead if Pakatan makes comeback, Wan Azizah says

ANWAR Ibrahim, not Dr Mahathir Mohamad, will likely “lead the country” if Pakatan Harapan returns to power, said Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in a Bloomberg Television interview.

The deputy prime minister of the ousted PH government said a meeting will be held on the matter.

“I will have a meeting, and I think most probably, it’s going to be Anwar.”

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also PH president and PKR president Anwar’s wife, said the pact “will be ready for anything, including snap elections”.

“We’ll have to wait and see how things unfold… everything looks to be so uncertain, so insecure, so fragile.”

The PH government fell after Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned on February 24 following a plot by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, sacked PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, Umno and PAS to form a new coalition.

Muhyiddin was then named by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the country’s eighth prime minister after showing that he enjoyed majority support from among MPs, and was sworn in on March 1.

Yesterday, he unveiled his cabinet line-up.

PH had said it would challenge Muhyiddin’s claim of majority support in Parliament, but the sitting originally scheduled for yesterday has been postponed to May 18.

Dr Wan Azizah told Bloomberg that the move to delay the session shows that the new Perikatan Nasional administration is displaying “uncertainty”. – March 10, 2020.
