PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s new government formed with the aid of Umno and PAS will be a kleptocracy, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The former prime minister said the new government includes political leaders who are corrupt.

“The formation of a backdoor government is not good. We practice democracy, not a back-stabbing system.

“Muhyiddin became the prime minister without a majority support. I had the support of 114 MPs, so I don’t know how he claimed to have the majority and became the prime minister.

“So, we are back to a kleptocracy government,” he said after meeting Bersatu members in Langkawi.

Muhyiddin became prime minister last week after showing he had the support of MPs from his own party Bersatu, Barisan Nasional, PAS and Sarawak ruling pact Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

The parties, minus GPS, have also formed a ruling pact called Perikatan Nasional.

Dr Mahathir, who lost Bersatu’s support as the prime ministerial candidate, had said he was amenable to Umno members quitting the party to join Bersatu or Pakatan Harapan, but not the party as a whole.

Pakatan Harapan came to power in the last general election by attacking BN, especially Umno, of being kleptocrats. – March 8, 2020.

  • TDM has come out strong against kleptocracy. I hope to see him one day condemn racial and religious supremacy as political ideologies.
