THE new Perikatan Nasional government will look into the affairs of the Finance Ministry under former finance minister Lim Guan Eng, said Umno deputy president Mohamad Hassan.
The former Negri Sembilan menteri besar accused DAP secretary-general Lim of selling off national assets and adding RM140 billion to the country’s debts during his 21-month stint as finance minister.
“We will investigate. If there is abuse of power or misuse of power, we will bring him to court.
“This is not revenge but for the sake of our country. We can’t let him off the hook,” Mohamad said today at the joint opening of the Pagoh Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri division meeting today.
“He said he wanted to save Malaysia but look what he has done. The national debt was RM686 billion during our time as federal government for 62 to years.
“When they took over, they added another RM140 billion, so our debts are RM800 billion. This is why I call him stupid.”
Mohamad said Lim did not know how to look for money and all that he did during his time in office was take loans.
“He took Petronas’s money, RM82 billion in cash, and then another RM10 billion. In total he took RM92 billion.
“If that is not enough, look what he did to Tabung Haji. He sold the assets but where is the money? Which ministry got the money? I have asked him and he could not answer,” Mohamad said.
Former religious affairs minister Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, who was in charge of Tabung Haji, defended Lim after the latter became the target of online attacks over the sale of four Tabung Haji hotels.
“Matters related to Tabung Haji are under my jurisdiction as the minister in charge of Islamic affairs and not Lim,” the former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said.
Mujahid’s tweet came after an image of Lim with a caption that he is Islam’s No. 1 enemy and “his blood can be spilled” was shared on social media.
Mujahid said all decisions by the Prime Minister’s Department to rehabilitate Tabung Haji are in accordance with the Tabung Haji Act.
Despite this, Lim is still the target, Mujahid said.
“Clearly this issue is being used to sow hatred and to legitimise slander. All decisions are in accordance with the Tabung Haji Act and that the minister in charge of religious affairs is responsible, not the finance minister,” Mujahid said.
In February, Tabung Haji announced that it transferred the ownership and operations of four hotels to Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJ), without the retrenchment of any staff member, effective April 1.
In a statement, the Tabung Haji board said operations will continue as normal at TH Hotel Kota Kinabalu; TH Hotel Bayan Lepas; TH Hotel & Convention Centre Alor Star; and TH Hotel & Convention Centre Kuala Terengganu.
UJ’s subsidiary, UJ Property Management Sdn Bhd (UJPM), will take over the hotels from TH Hotel and Residence Sdn Bhd (THHR).
All the hotels are part of an asset transfer involving 29 property assets, one unlisted company and equity worth RM9.63 billion.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had previously said that Lembaga Tabung Haji only sold some properties that were not making money.
There are other ways to invest and get better returns, said the prime minister.
“Some of the properties are not useful and not giving any returns. Therefore, TH should get rid of them,” Dr Mahathir said, responding to concerns the government was not looking after Muslims’ interests. – March 7, 2020.

Clearly, he is only fit for overturning tables at coffee shops.
Nothing more. Absolutely nothing more, in his own words.
