MALACCA Barisan Nasional (BN) has ditched Bersatu to form the state government with two other lawmakers, showing cracks in the Perikatan Nasional that took power in Putrajaya since Sunday.

Bernama reported that 13 BN assemblymen have withdrawn their cooperation with two Bersatu lawmakers and will go it alone with two other lawmakers.

The two Bersatu assemblymen are Mohd Rafiq Naizamohidee (Paya Rumput) and Noor Effendi Ahmad (Teluk Mas).

BN will continue to have the support of DAP’s Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) and PKR’s Muhammad Jailani Khamis (Rembia).

With 15 reps on its side, BN will have a simple majority.

Malacca BN chief Abdul Rauf Yusoh told reporters today that the two Bersatu reps did not attend meetings to discuss their new cooperation.

“This has caused Malacca BN to lose its confidence in pursuing this cooperation.”

Rauf said Malacca BN along with Norhizam and Jailani will be forming a new coalition supported by statutory declarations (SDs). They will present these SDs to the governor.

He added that the situation in Malacca would not affect the spirit of Perikatan Nasional at Putrajaya where Bersatu has formed the federal government with BN and PAS.

Yesterday, Malacca Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob informed chief minister Adly Zahari of Pakatan Harapan that he had lost the majority support in the state assembly.

Khalil also rejected Adly’s proposal for the state assembly to be dissolved. – March 5, 2020.
