Kit Siang polls highest in CEC re-election

DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang received the highest number of votes in the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections in Shah Alam today.

The Gelang Patah MP polled 1,199 votes followed by Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo who received 1,198 votes.

Party secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was third with 1,180 votes while Seremban MP Anthony Loke picked up 1,175. Fifth was Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong.

In the previous 2013 re-election Liew came in first with 1,438 votes.

This is the third time DAP is holding its CEC elections since 2012 following a dispute by some members.

The second CEC election was held seven months later in July 2013 but had its results rejected by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) this year.

Former DAP chairman Karpal Singh, who died in a car accident in 2014, received 43 votes.

Teo Nie Ching who was previously at the 17th spot came in at sixth with 1080 votes.

Among other members which made it to the top 10 out of the 20 in the CEC are Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen (1,057 votes), Seputeh MP Teresa Kok (1,033 votes), Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai (1,021 votes) and Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua (1,020) votes

Ronnie Liu and V. Sivakumar made it into the CEC garnering 688 and 586 votes respectively – replacing Boo Cheng Hau and Karpal Singh – which were the only new members that got voted into the CEC with the rest of the members remain unchanged.

The rest of the members are Nga Kor Ming, Fong Kui Lun, Chow Kon Yeow, M. Kulasegaran, Chong Eng, Teng Chang Khim, Ngeh Koo Ham and Zairil Khir Johari.

The results were announced by Grant Thornton’s Returning Officer John Lau and his assistant Desmond Tan at 5.10pm today.

A total of 1,346 votes were cast, out of which 36 were spoiled. – November 12, 2017.
