DR MAHATHIR Mohamad has disputed Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s views on the reasons for the country’s political crisis, predicting tonight that the imbroglio has no end.

Muhyiddin said yesterday Dr Mahathir’s resignation had sparked a crisis and he stepped in to overcome the turmoil.

“Is it possible that I would just resign without a reason? I who was purportedly supported by the government parties and the opposition, including Najib Tun Razak and others on trial for corruption?” Dr Mahathir said in a six-paragraph blog post.

“This does not make sense.”

Dr Mahathir disclosed that he had resigned, as the politicians who had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had made an admission that meant the prime minister no longer commanded support.

“I no longer had the majority support and therefore was no longer qualified to be prime minister,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said the palace then accepted his resignation, after which he was made interim prime minister.

The nonagenarian politician yesterday branded Muhyiddin a traitor who sparked the crisis that led to the Pakatan Harapan government collapsing last Monday.

“Who would replace me. The people are tired of politicians who prioritise politics over good governance.

“I proposed a non-partisan government that is not filled up with politicians but people who are knowledgeable that are able to join the government. The party leaders can also join the government but as ordinary citizens not bound by the agenda of their parties.

“But my proposal was rejected. Therefore, I stepped down. And this crisis continues. I don’t know for how much longer,” he said.

In a televised speech last night, Muhyiddin said the crisis was triggered by Dr Mahathir’s resignation as prime minister and claimed he had to act to save the country from “political turmoil”.

“I only stepped up to save the situation when neither candidate claimed a majority of support from Dewan Rakyat,” Muhyiddin had said. – March 3, 2020.

  • 1. Respect the Monarchy s decision.
    2. Crisis began with 7th pm s resignation for reasons not transparent and not brought to PH s presidential council.
    3. Backdoor govt maybe immoral but not illegal.
    4. The next proper step is to file a motion of no confidence in parliament. If successful snap polls, back to the people. If not, respect the outcome.
    5. The end will inevitably always be decidef by the people. Its just a matter of time.
Politicians come and go but the great nation of Malaysia will stay.
