DR MAHATHIR Mohamad today said he felt most betrayed by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who was working towards becoming prime minister.

“I feel betrayed mostly by Muhyiddin. He was working on this for a long time,” he said in a press conference today.

On former PKR No. 2 Mohamed Azmin Ali who is now in Bersatu and has shored his support towards Muhyiddin, Dr Mahathir said he had his own agenda.

“He has his own agenda but he has chosen to work with Muhyiddin,” he said of the former economic affairs minister.

Muhyiddin was sworn in as the new prime minister at Istana Negara at 10.30am.

Dr Mahathir meanwhile said he had no choice but to resign as prime minister on February 24 as he was not in favour of working with former Umno and PAS leaders who are facing corruption charges in court.

He added that while he was open to having clean Umno leaders, he could not accept the party en bloc.

He also expressed concerns that this may lead to certain leaders influencing court proceedings once they come to power.

However, he said Muhyiddin was open to working with Umno and PAS as “politics is more important than principle” to him, said Dr Mahathir.

Dr Mahathir claimed six Bersatu MPs were not in favour of Muhyiddin’s appointment as prime minister, claiming that the numbers presented to the Agong by the incoming prime minister may not be accurate.

He challenged the former home minister to prove the support he has in Parliament. – March 1, 2020.

  • To the crooks who have hijacked the government through crooked and wicked schemes. There is a God of Heaven and Earth who is watching, your "reward" is coming very soon, it will be just and swift. You cannot get away with your evil endeavours. The good and righteous will be vindicated.

  • You were all betraying each other, you were aware & part of the coup but disagreed with the time-line and some personalities involved (that is the one honorable part of this entire move, refusal to work with those charged with corruption), but, you did not disagree with the coup, you said so yourself.
