INTERIM Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said that six Bersatu MPs, including himself, do not support Pagoh MP and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin for the position of prime minister.
The Bersatu MPs who are with Dr Mahathir are: Mukhriz Mahathir (Jerlun), Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar), Amirruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu), Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam) and Eddin Syzalee Shith (Kuala Pilah).
The Langkawi MP said the rival faction’s declaration earlier today about the number of MPs supporting Muhyiddin could not have the 112 names needed to form a government
“At this moment, I have 114 MPs supporting me as prime minister. I have prepared a letter for the king explaining this.
“I hope the king will accept my letter and my explanation, which I will send to him,” he said in a statement tonight after chairing a Pakatan Harapan Council meeting tonight.
Dr Mahathir also attached a list of the 114 MPs to his statement.
In addition to the Bersatu MPs, the list includes: Jeffrey Kitingan (Keningau) and Richard Riot (Serian) who had earlier today defected to PKR, Gabungan Bersatu Sabah’s Maximus Ongkili (Kota Marudu), Baru Bian (Selangau) who had walked out with Mohamed Azmin Ali from PKR, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), and Masir Kujat (Sri Aman).
Muhyiddin is scheduled to take the oath of office as the country’s eighth prime minister at Istana Negara tomorrow at 10.30am. – February 29, 2020.
