BARU Bian has signed a statutory declaration backing Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the position of prime minister, according to PKR communications director and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil.

Bian’s act at Yayasan Al Bukary was witnessed by Dr Mahathir and livestreamed on social media by Fahmi.

However, Baru Bian, who left Yayasan Al Bukhary at 8:40pm, did not talk to the media.

Fahmi declared that, with this signature, Pakatan Harapan (PH) had secured the support of 114 MPs in the 222-member Parliament for Dr Mahathir.

Yayasan Al Bukary has become the focal point for PH parliamentarians as more of them stream into the building to sign similar statutory declarations.

The PH council is set to meet tonight to discuss Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s decision to swear in Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister tomorrow.

Ahead of this, Mukhriz Mahathir has questioned Bersatu’s declaration that 36 of the party’s MPs endorsed Muhyiddin as the next prime minister, saying six had withdrawn their support for the party president.

On Twitter and Instagram, Mukhriz posted a copy of a press statement by Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya dated February 28, which said 36 MPs had endorsed Muhyiddin for prime minister.

“Why was it declared that there are 36 Bersatu lawmakers supporting Muhyiddin as PM when there are six supporting Dr Mahathir?

“Telling lies to become PM?” he wrote in his post.

He then named five MPs, besides himself, who supported Dr Mahathir has prime minister candidate: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar), Amiruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu), Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam), Eddin Syith Syazlee (Kuala Pilah) and Dr Mahathir (Langkawi). – February 29, 2020.
