THE PAS Youth chief Mohd Khalil Abdul Hadi said today the party’s excos in the Selangor government need not resign their posts in the event of a split with PKR, as the Islamist party continues to draw flak for wanting to cut ties with its ally.

Khalil, who was recently elected the Youth chief, said posts in the Selangor executive council, of which PAS held three, were not given by PKR.

“PKR did not choose the PAS excos in Selangor. And PKR has fewer seats than PAS,” said Khalil in response to a statement from PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today.

Saifuddin had said that PAS would have to relinquish all its posts in the Pakatan Harapan government if it persisted in cutting relations with PKR.

“PAS excos are not appointed by PKR and DAP so they have to continue their duties to the people,” said a defiant Khalil when asked to comment on Saifuddin’s statement.

This follows two years of strained ties between the two parties, during which PAS and PKR leaders and members have been seen to clash in public.

More demands to sever ties with PKR are expected to be heard tomorrow the at PAS main assembly.

Today, Saifuddin of PKR said the honourable thing for PAS excos and other appointees to do was to step down from all posts in the Selangor government.

“What is the logic of ending ties with PKR and before this, Amanah and DAP, but at the same time you want to stay in your posts and work together (with the three parties) in the Selangor government?

“Any decision other than resignation will nauseate the public as you are seen as criticising your own partners, breaking ties with them but you still want to stay and get the benefits of your posts in the Selangor government,” he said. – April 28, 2017.
