INTERIM prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s meeting with lawmakers from Bersatu and Azmin Ali’s faction ended after about three hours without any announcement.
Former entrepreneur development minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof told the press briefly that an announcement will be made tonight, without elaborating.
Redzuan also refused to comment on what was discussed during the meeting.
Former economic affairs minister Azmin and former deputy transport minister Kamaruddin Jaafar were also seen leaving the building.
The meeting started about 10am in Dr Mahathir’s office at Yayasan Al-Bukhary building in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr Mahathir, who is also Bersatu chairman, arrived at Yayasan Al-Bukhary at 9.12am.
The meeting is believed to discuss the recent political developments of the country, including gathering support for its candidate to become the next prime minister.
Dr Mahathir’s resignation as prime minister on Monday and Bersatu’s decision to leave Pakatan Harapan shortly after that led to the collapse of the 18-month ruling pact.
Both Dr Mahathir and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim are now fighting for numbers to become the next prime minister.
Yesterday, Dr Mahathir said he also welcomed PKR president Muhyiddin Yassin to the PM race.
It is uncertain if Dr Mahathir will give way to Muhyiddin or would still throw his name to the hat. – February 28, 2020.
