GABUNGAN Parti Sarawak told Dr Mahathir Mohamad that if he did not give in to their demands related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963, they won’t support him, said Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg made this clear during their discussions on the political impasse on who should be prime minister on Tuesday, said the Santubong MP.

The concessions the state ruling coalition wrung from Dr Mahathir are all related to the disputes and non-compliance of the MA63 – the legal document that spells out the terms for the formation of the federation of Malaysia.

Among the demands are never to attempt to remove the state’s immigration autonomy; rights and royalty to natural resources, particularly oil and gas products; rights to its land and forest; and a recognition of the state’s boundaries as agreed in MA63.

At the heart of the of the boundary dispute is the Territorial Sea Act 2012, which reduced Sarawak’s territorial sea boundary to only 4.8km, thus depriving the state the continental shelf of Sarawak and the natural resources in it.

“Abang Johari told him that straight in the face. That’s it. As simple as that,” the seven-term MP told reporters who caught up with him at Kpg Telok Serabang in Sematan yesterday as he made his rounds in his constituency.

“He told the prime minister ‘we are with you’ based on this, this, this.

“If you withdraw your promise after you have formed the government, we can also withdraw (our support for the government).

“If you are not looking after our interests, we will not be going with you,” he said.

On Wednesday, Abang Johari gave an assurance to Sarawakians that any decision taken by the GPS government in light of the political impasse “will be in the interest of the nation without sacrificing the rights and interest of Sarawak”.

Wan Junaidi said Sarawak folk should not underestimate the ability of the chief minister as a statesman.

  • Sarawak and Sabah, you should negotiate with anyone BUT the big liar. He will NOT follow through with anything as he has proven so far. Better speak to Anwar or even the UMNO goons if you are comfortable with them. At least they will be around longer than that dirt bag of an old man.

  • Who was the government that deprived Sarawak of the things listed here? What makes him think any future government that includes the same perpetrators as before, will suddenly give in to Sarawaks demands? Especially as those jockeying for power st the moment have no legitimacy and have broken their promises to the people?
