UMNO has ordered all its division leaders to get ready for a possible general election, said Annuar Musa, even as Parliament prepares to meet on Monday to find a prime minister.

The Umno secretary-general said the order was consistent with the party’s stand that it wants the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament and hold a general election.

“Umno wants Parliament to be dissolved, therefore, we must be ready.

“Even though we do not know what will happen next, as a party, we must always be ready for an election,” Annuar told a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

He said this after a meeting between the party president and Supreme Council members, along with all division leaders today.

In the meeting attended by 180 division leaders, Umno nailed down a circular that included guidelines for its cooperation with PAS in muafakat nasional.

“We have come up with guidelines on how the cooperation between Umno and PAS is at all levels, including state, division and polling district centre,” he said.

Last Tuesday, the opposition bloc reached a consensus that Parliament has to be dissolved. The suggestion was presented to the king.

Annuar said the recommendation is a form of justice for the democratic system, and added the mandate must be returned to the people to resolve the political turmoil plaguing the country today.

He said the deal was also a sign that they were rejecting the cross-party government Dr Mahathir Mohamad wanted to form as interim prime minister, which also involves cooperation with DAP. – February 27, 2020.
