BERSATU leaders, caught unawares by Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s shock resignation as prime minister and party chairman, were at his residence in Seri Kembangan this morning.

Party president Muhyiddin Yassin arrived at 8.05am, followed by deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir at 8.10am.

Women’s wing chief Rina Harun also came, arriving through another gate to the compound.

It is not known whether they actually had a meeting with Dr Mahathir, as he was seen leaving the residence at 9.15am.

It is learnt that he is headed to the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.

After Dr Mahathir departed, Muhyiddin also left at 9.35am and Rina at 9.55am.

Dr Mahathir resigned as prime minister yesterday, about an hour after Muhyiddin said he was pulling Bersatu out of the Pakatan Harapan coalition. 

The chief secretary to the government later announced yesterday evening that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appointed Dr Mahathir as interim prime minister. – February 25, 2020.
