ENTREPRENEUR Development Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof became the first ministerial casualty in the ongoing Bersatu party polls when he lost to former Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin in Masjid Tanah yesterday.
Sources from Bersatu told The Malaysian Insight that Mas Ermieyati collected 414 votes to Redzuan’s 328 to become the Masjid Tanah division chief in Bersatu’s inaugural party elections.
The third candidate, A. Lukman Ab Ghani, took 227 votes.
Mas Ermieyati confirmed the outcome to The Malaysian Insight.
Mas Ermieyati, who is also the Masjid Tanah MP, joined Bersatu after the last elections in December 2018.
The former deputy tourism, arts and culture minister had resigned from Umno in June 2018 to become an independent MP before joining Bersatu.
Although Redzuan is the MP for Alor Gajah, he was born in Masjid Tanah and was placed in the division.
Meanwhile, Rural and Regional Development Minister Rina Harun managed to win the Women’s chief position at the Sepang division with 168 votes.
The Sepang division was won by Suhaimi Mohd Ghazali (371 votes) while the deputy’s post was won by Sadiman Saridi (288).
The vice-chief position was won by Muhammad Ali Mohammad Naina Maraicair (306) while the youth chief post went to Muhammad Shahmi Shamsuddin (68). – February 24, 2020.
