BERSATU leaders and PKR members loyal to Mohamed Azmin Ali are currently huddled in separate meetings as questions arise over the future of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Umno and PAS ,who have bandied about the proposal of the Muafakat Nasional with select PH components, are also conferring this afternoon at the Putra World Trade Centre.
The ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition chief and Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Abang Openg has convened his coalition MPs at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
The meetings follow a tense PH presidential council meeting on Friday where PH chairman Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was pressured to set a date for the transition of power.
The meeting ended with the PH council deciding to allow Dr Mahathir to choose when to retire but the events there appear to have damaged ties between the four coalition partners.
The Bersatu meeting began this morning about 9am and was still in progress at press time.
Meanwhile, the Azmin faction met at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya at 10am. The function room where the meeting is taking place is booked till 7pm.
Among those spotted going into the hotel were Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is the Ampang MP, Saifuddin Abdullah (Temerloh), Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat) and Maria Chin Abdullah (Petaling Jaya).
But although his lieutanants have gathered, the leader himself Azmin did not seem to be any hurry to meet them, tweeting at 1.45pm that he was with his family celebrating his grandchild’s birthday. An accompanying picture shows him playing with a child holding balloons.
GPS is set to assemble in the capital at a secret hour. Some party sources said that it is an important meeting but others said it is a routine gathering to prepare for parliament on March 9.
All the parties have at some point in the last few months met with the prime minister to discuss the future of the country. – February 23, 2020.
