ANWAR Ibrahim has urged PKR members to respect the decision of the Pakatan Harapan leadership meeting last night to leave it up to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to decide when he would step down.

He urged party members not to hold any demonstration, after a pro-Anwar group threatened to do that to pressure Dr Mahathir to leave office.

The PKR president said the decision that the power handover would take place after the November Apec summit reached by consensus last night.

“What we achieved yesterday was by consensus, it includes my decision and PKR’s. Therefore, PKR as a whole must respectfully adhere to the decision.

“So I request and urge my friends, to honour this decision. This is for people within the party, outside is beyond my control,” the Port Dickson MP told reporters after attending a National Muslim Students Association event in Bangi, Selangor, today.

The mood at the meeting last night was strained, according to Malaysiakini, tensing up when some PH parties pressed Dr Mahathir for a fixed date, but his party colleagues from Bersatu resisted the pressure.

“The meeting was democratic but tense. Importantly, no one disputed the transition. Just that the time of the transition has to be well considered, which we leave it to the wisdom of Tun (Dr Mahathir).

“If you want to avoid heated discussions, that is difficult. We don’t place any conditions, we allow freedom of speech,” Anwar said. – February 22, 2020.
