TERENGGANU has no record of gangsterism, said state police, with its chief attributing this to the state’s 97% Malay population.

In Terengganu, 97% of the population comprises Malays, and they still respect their elders in their villages. They respect the village chief, imam and bilal.

“This culture is an advantage, and can prevent gangsterism-related crimes,” Aidi Ismail told Bernama in Kuala Terengganu today.

He said residents usually reported suspicious activities to police, such as cases of drug abuse by youth in the community.

“For the record, Terengganu’s crime index showed a 7.3% decrease, or 135 cases, to 1,705 cases in the first 10 months of the year compared with the same period last year.

“This makes Terengganu the seventh state to record a reduction in the crime index.”

Aidi said state police had solved 76.6% of cases, the highest among the contingents nationwide.

He said the success was achieved following a number of preventive operations and strategic plans carried out by the force. – Bernama, November 8, 2017.
