DR Mahathir Mohamad today reiterated that he will step down as prime minister after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in November, even as the opposition plans to move a parliamentary motion to keep him in office for a full term.

He said his meeting with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim yesterday discussed the transition plan.

“He (Anwar) met me yesterday, and his statement on the meeting is correct.

“I am not involved in any other activity. I have promised to leave after Apec, and will keep my promise,” the Langkawi MP told reporters after an event on the island.

He stressed that he is not involved in any move to stay in office longer.

PAS had said it would move a motion of confidence in Dr Mahathir’s leadership at the next meeting of Parliament.

Yesterday, Anwar said he met the prime minister in Putrajaya, and that the Pakatan Harapan leadership council will discuss the succession plan next Friday.

He said he stands firm by the agreement that he will take over from Dr Mahathir. – February 14, 2020.
