GOBIND Singh Deo is leaving it to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to issue a statement on the controversy involving cosmetics entrepreneur Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman.
The communications and multimedia minister said he believes the regulatory body is “more aware” of the status of the investigation into Sajjad, better known as Sajat.
“Anybody can lodge a report with police or MCMC, but it is totally up to the authorities whether to act on it. It’s under their jurisdiction.
“If there is any statement to be issued, let it be by MCMC. They know the status of the investigation or the decision made on the issue.
“We, at the ministry level, will just let them investigate the case according to the law,” he told reporters in Seremban today.
He was asked about the action that MCMC will take against Sajat over photos and videos shared online of the businessman wearing women’s prayer attire while performing the umrah.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa had said he was waiting for MCMC and the Albayt Travel (M) Sdn Bhd tour agency, which handled Sajat’s umrah trip, to take action. – Bernama, February 6, 2020.
