PARENTS who gift motorcycles to their school-going children should include a helmet and driver’s licence as well, said Perlis Road Transport Department (RTD) director Fatimah Mohamed Ali Piah.

“We know that many parents today give motorcycles to their children to encourage them to study hard and get good results in their exams, but in doing so, parents should not forget to tell their children to be courteous road users,” she told Bernama recently.

She encouraged parents to not just get the machines for their kids to ride to school, but also the B2 licence and a helmet as part of the “gift package”.

RTD regularly holds talks on road safety in schools, especially secondary schools, she said, adding that students are advised to first get a licence before riding their motorcycles.
