THE police have referred their investigation papers on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to the attorney-general following his request to reopen investigations.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, said the police are now waiting for Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali’s reply. 

“Police have carried out investigations as instructed by Apandi and have referred the investigation paper back to the AGC. 

“The police are awaiting further instructions from AGC,” Zahid said in a parliamentary written reply to Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua on November 2. 

Pua had asked whether the investigation into the management of 1MDB, including its former chief executive officer Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Hilmi and other officials, had been closed. 

On October 31, Apandi said he had tasked the police to reopen investigation into 1MDB because he was dissatisfied with their report.

“I cannot tell you what I have asked the police to investigate. All I can say is there were parts that lacked evidence.

“There’s at least 25%-35% of the report I am not satisfied with,” said the former Federal Court judge.

A day before, Minister in the Prime Minister Azalina Othman said police had been ordered to reopen the 1MDB investigation, while responding to a question from Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo4.

Former inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said on April 12 police had submitted the investigation papers on 1MDB to the AGC. – November 6, 2017.
