THE cabinet has approved an additional 200 multipurpose vehicles (MPVs) for police this year, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the force may still need other new assets such as drones, and the cabinet has been informed about this.

“The 200 new MPVs are on the way. It is a good move. However, they (police) need more assets, and more funds will be required, too,” he said when visiting Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador at Bukit Aman today.

Drones may be needed to monitor “sensitive” areas, such as the east coast of Sabah.

“I’ve mentioned in a cabinet meeting that we may need drones to patrol areas such as those in Sabah. It has been discussed, and hopefully, it can be materialised,” said Muhyiddin.

Present at the federal police headquarters was Deputy Home Minister Azis Jamman. – January 30, 2020.
