POLICE are awaiting a pathology report in the case of a Selangor assemblyman arrested with 16 others at a drug party in Jalan Puchong on January 12.

Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the first phase of urine screening conducted on 16 of the 17 individuals tested positive.

“When the urine tests were positive, we sent the samples to the Pathology Department for a second screening. So, we are still waiting for the results from the department,” he told a press conference at the Police Training College in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, today.

He added there were no further developments in the case.

Earlier this month, Selangor Bersatu Youth leader and Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah was among 17 people arrested by police in Puchong on suspicion of drug abuse.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said a small amount of ketamine was found in the condominium unit, and the people inside were “high” when officers entered.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Bersatu will wait for the police to finish their investigation into the drug-fuelled party before deciding on appropriate action against its leaders caught there.

The party chairman said that they have decided to suspend the leaders – including Adhif – from their party positions in the short term.

“We will wait for further development. We can take action against them but we can’t consider them to be guilty until proven in court,” Dr Mahathir had said.

Of the 17 people detained, one is a special officer to the home minister and one to the youth and sports minister, while another is an aide to an assemblyman.

Adhif had said that he was “simply at the wrong place at the wrong time”, and vowed to continue serving his constituency.

The others at the party are said to include Adhif’s aide, an assistant to the prime minister’s political secretary, former Sea Games gymnastics champion Kau Git Kuar, and a businessman and his colleagues.

Sixteen of the 17 arrested also tested positive for methamphetamine. – January 28, 2020.

  • All this delay smacks of attempts to cover up or highlights the gross incompetence of the Pathology Department. Both reflects badly on the efficiency of our civil service.
