PKR leader Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak has filed a defamation suit against Muhammad Yusoff Rawther for accusing him of being violent, reports Malaysiakini.

Farhash, who is political secretary to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and heads the party’s Perak chapter, filed the suit at the Kuala Lumpur High Court registry on Friday.

He said Yusoff, Anwar’s former researcher assistant, defamed him in a press conference on December 4 last year.

Yusoff had told the media that he was sexually assaulted by Anwar, and that police failed to act on his report accusing Farhash of assaulting him at Anwar’s office in Petaling Jaya last May.

The Attorney-General’s Chamber recently dropped his sexual assault case against the party president due to a lack of evidence.

Farhash, in his suit, said Yusoff maliciously published the defamatory words against him with the knowledge and intent that the words will be carried by local media, and that the related video recording will be uploaded to Facebook and other social media platforms.

He said Yusoff’s words painted him as a bully and criminal who is violent and disreputable, among others.

He said his lawyers sent a letter of demand to Yusoff on December 30 last year, seeking, among others, a retraction of the words and for an apology to be issued.

Farhash added that Yusoff, through his lawyer, denied the former’s claims listed in the letter of demand, and has refused, till now, to abide by the demands.

Apart from seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages, Farhash also wants an injunction to stop Yusoff from further publishing and/or continuing to publish defamatory words against him.

The matter is up for case management before the Kuala Lumpur High Court registry at 9am tomorrow. – January 27, 2020.
