TUBE wells will be able to supply water for domestic and agricultural needs in Kedah during the ongoing drought season, said Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar.

He said his ministry will monitor the dry season across the country and ready to face the possibility of water shortage.

“In Kedah, we have installed a number of tube wells since last year.

“We will open these tube wells when the need arises, and will continue to add more of them to ensure there is adequate water supply.

“But if the situation (drought) continues, we will have to ration water in Kedah,” he told reporters after visiting a waste management plant in Langkawi today.

Meanwhile, Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir said his government is awaiting feedback from the meteorological department on when to start cloud seeding.

He added that the planned cloud seeding for today may not take place due to bad weather.

Yesterday, state authorities urged farmers and residents to conserve water because of the shortages. – January 19, 2020.
