BERSATU will wait for the police to finish their investigation into the drug-fuelled party on Monday before deciding on taking appropriate action against its leaders caught there, said party chairman and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

According to Dr Mahathir, the party has decided to suspend the leaders – including the Selangor Bersatu Youth leader and Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah – from their party positions in the short-term.

“We will wait for further development. We can take action against them but we can’t consider them to be guilty until proven in court,” he said after chairing the party supreme council meeting at Yayasan Albukhari in Kuala Lumpur today.

A total of 17 people were detained in the 4.40am operation on Monday, including a special officer to the home minister, and one to the youth and sports minister, as well as an aide to an assemblyman.

It was reported that among those arrested was Adhif Syan.

He later told the press that he was “simply at the wrong place at the wrong time”, and vowed to continue serving his constituency.

The others are said to include Adhif’s aide, an assistant to the prime minister’s political secretary, former SEA Games gymnastics champion Kau Git Kuar, and a businessman and his colleagues.

Sixteen of the 17 arrested tested positive for methamphetamine. – January 17, 2020.
