Malaysian named Best Director at Tokyo International Film Festival

MALAYSIAN Edmund Yeo has been named Best Director at the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) 2017, held from October 24 until today, for his film Aqerat.

Yeo’s film was also selected as a finalist, along with 14 other films from around the world, to vie for the Grand Prix (Best Film) award.

His film was chosen from among 1,538 participants, representing 88 countries.

It is the second achievement for Yeo, 33, after his first film, River of Exploding Durians, competed for the main prize in TIFF’s 2014 edition.

His documentary on Malaysia’s film maestro, the late Yasmin Ahmad, titled “Yasmin-san”, was selected by festival organisers for special premiere under the “Çross Cut Asia” segment. – Bernama, November 3, 2017.
