IN a Facebook video today, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said if it takes him being locked up to against Najib Razak, he would willingly do so.

“Since I have been actively going against Najib, there are many people who want me to wear the orange shirt with the words lock-up. So this is another step towards that direction.

“If the police want investigate, maybe I have to wear that shirt. Then people would be happy,” he said in the 70-second video on his Facebook page.

The video also attached a speech of Dr Mahathir explaining the alleged “Bugis” remark on October 18 at Jelajah Semarak, Kemaman Terengganu.

“Not all Bugis people are pirates, our King is also of a Bugis descent. I didn’t say that our King is a pirate, but what I meant was Najib is the pirate,” he said in his speech there.

Yesterday the Selangor Royal Court announced it wanted Dr Mahathir to be investigated for sedition, inciting Malaysians to hate, degrade and view the Bugis community with contempt.

Dr Mahathir allegedly made such remarks in a speech at the Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy rally in Petaling Jaya on October 14, Selangor Royal Court secretary Hanafisah Jais said.

Since then an Indonesian Bugis association had demanded Dr Mahathir apologise or it would stage a protest outside the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Social media users have also called for Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to be investigated for sedition after he had accused Dr Mahathir of having Indian parentage and using the Malay community and Umno to further his political career.

The video has so far garnered 221 likes and 83 shares on Facebook. – November 3, 2017.
