PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that industries in Malaysia should expand their expertise and look for business abroad.

He said industries should not limit themselves to only exporting materials but they should also export finished products and expertise.

“All industries in Malaysia, which serve the country, they must expand in order to go abroad and look for business outside,” Dr Mahathir said after attending an event at the Dhaya Maju Infrastructure (Asia) Sdn Bhd’s (DMIA) rail depot in Serendah.

DMIA is the company responsible for the Klang Valley Double Track (KVDT) Rehabilitation project, which involves 500km of track from Rawang to Salak Selatan, Sentul to Simpang Port Klang, Salak Selatan to Seremban and Simpang Port Klang to Port Klang.

The prime minister said although the project is costly, he’s happy to witness a Malaysian company awarded the contract doing well.

“I’m glad to see that a Malaysian company has taken up the challenge and they seem to be quite capable of doing well,” he told reporters at a press conference.

Besides railways, DMIA also has experience in highway and infrastructure, property development and other projects abroad.

Earlier, DMIA chairman Mohd Azumi Mohamed told they have completed several projects in India, including four major expressways in the states of Chennai, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

He also said that they are in talks with an infrastructure firm from Japan to join a project in Myanmar. – January 13, 2020.
