POLICE will seize a multi-million ringgit property belonging to wanted businessman Low Taek Jho and his family, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said today.
He said the new asset, a house, was discovered recently and will soon be seized by the authorities.
“We have found a latest asset belonging to this family of robbers. It is a house worth millions of ringgit located in the country,” Hamid told a press conference.
He reiterated that police are still working to have Low brought back to Malaysia to face charges of money laundering. The Penang-born financier is alleged to be the mastermind of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.
Hamid, who said last year that police would have Low back in Malaysia by the end of 2019, today admitted he failed to meet this target and blamed “restrictions” police had to deal with.
In previous press briefings, he has alluded to the lack of cooperation from a certain country where Low is believed to be.
“There were obstacles that we faced along the way. Certain parties have stopped us from getting him. I have tried my best but I failed to keep my promise to catch him.
“But we will not lose hope. We will bring him back,” said Hamid.
He again said Low should return to Malaysia since the latter has repeatedly insisted on his innocence.
Hamid said Low would receive a fair trial and his safety would be guaranteed.
“I personally guarantee that he will be safe here. If he has not done anything wrong please come home. There is nothing for you to be afraid of,” said Hamid. – January 13, 2020.
