POLICE have not closed the file on the sex clips allegedly involving Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali despite the attorney-general deciding not to press charges.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said police will wait for new evidence but maintained that the two firms engaged by them could not determine the identity of the two men in the video clips.

“The case is not closed. If we have new evidence we will continue from there. As for now, we leave it as it is.

“The two international firms we engaged could not determine the identity of the men because of the low resolution of the video.

“Same goes to the firms used by the other party to look into this case. The firms could not determine the identities of the persons because of the bad resolution,” Hamid said.

Attorney-General Tommy Thomas last week said it was the unanimous decision of the deputy public prosecutors not to prefer charges against the men in the series of sex videos that emerged last June on social media.

This is because of investigators’ inability to positively identify the men in the sex video through facial recognition analysis, Thomas had said.

The videos purportedly show Azmin having sex with former PKR Santubong youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz.

The scandal has also worsened the rift between Azmin and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, whose followers have been accused of setting up Azmin.

Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam had taken upon himself to pursue the case.

He engaged a firm in the United States to analyse the video and had handed over the findings to police last year. – January 13, 2020.
