BERSATU will hold internal elections and its annual division and branch meetings during the period January 25 to April 4.

Party’s elections committee chairman Syed Hamid Albar said in a statement the elections were for division and supreme council posts, as well as for the posts in the youth and women’s wings.

“After the elections at the branch level for division-level leaders, the division meetings will vote for the supreme council leaders at the federal level,” Syed Hamid said.

He said party members who wished to run for branch posts need not register their candidacy.

“But for those who wish to contest at the division level, they will need to register their candidacy with the party election committee officers at their respective division offices on January 13, from 9am to 2pm,” he said.

Only candidates verified by the election committee will be included in the list to be distributed to members during the elections in conjunction with branch meetings, the former Umno leader added.

He advised party members to check their membership status as the party election committee would only acknowledge the list of members verified by the Bersatu head office as being qualified to attend the branch meetings.

“Membership statuses will be displayed at the division and branch offices from January 7-12,” he said.

Party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad has previously said that elections for the top party posts would be held during Bersatu annual general meeting in June. – January 3, 2020.
