A YOUTH movement has urged Putrajaya to ban Dong Jiao Zong for being adamant that a meeting to discuss the Jawi issue be held on Saturday.

Gerakan Belia 4B Malaysia said the Chinese education group is being offensive and extreme in its objection to the introduction of Jawi lessons in vernacular primary schools next year.

“Their actions have raised tensions and anger among Muslims, and are also against the federal constitution.

“The meeting can result in racial issues,” said president Mohd Nizam Omar in a statement today.

He warned that Dong Jiao Zong’s insistence may lead to racial riots.

“Make sure the bloodshed like that of May 13, 1969 is not repeated. Those riots must serve as a lesson for all of us to remain united.”

The youth movement, which claims to have 40,000 members, said Malay-Muslims must urge the government to cancel the Saturday meeting and ban Dong Jiao Zong.

Dong Jiao Zong will hold the meet to discuss the inclusion of three pages of Jawi lessons in the Year Four Bahasa Malaysia textbook next year.

Another group, Seni Khat Action Team (Sekat), will hold its own event on the matter at a hotel on Sunday.

Dong Jiao Zong has clarified that its event is not a rally or protest, but a conference for Chinese civil groups to discuss the Jawi issue, and that it is not open to the public.

Several right-wing groups have called for action to be taken against Dong Jiao Zong and Sekat. – December 26, 2019.

  • The Congress is not against the National Language, Malay rights, racial harmony, National security or the constitution, why anyone race should feel insecure, cause riot or make counter demands against another race?. If the government is insensitive and turning deaf ears to peoples feelings & appeals, how else to show our dissatisfaction. What good can khat bring to non Malays or non Muslims that did not happen in the past. Racial unity was never an issue before 70's. Why blame vernacular schools? Blame the government policy & racial and religious fanatism....
