ILLEGAL dumping of solvent and black oil into a manhole resulted in the pollution affecting the water treatment plant at Sg Semenyih, said Amirudin Shari.
The Selangor Menteri Besar said authorities had detected the source of the pollution from an Indah Water Konsortium manhole at Bandar Bukit Anggota in Bangi.
“This is the second time this incident occurred at the same place. The first was last September.
“The pollution is caused by solvent and black oil, which contaminated the river water and affected the water quality,” he said after visiting the site today.
This is the third day in a row that consumers in parts of Hulu Langat, Sepang, Putrajaya, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Langat have had to endure dry taps after the two plants were shut down on Saturday.
The water disruption has affected 366 areas with 328,957 consumer accounts.
Amirudin said users should be able to receive water latest by midnight.
The Selangor Menteri Besar said they have asked the Kajang Municipal Council to limit access to the area.
“Twice this area was contaminated by unscrupulous people. This is illegal dumping and the volume was high.
“We are also looking at the standard operating procedure and monitoring the areas.” – December 23, 2019.
