NAJIB Razak said he will perform the “sumpah laknat” on Friday to deny he played any role in the 2006 killing of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
This comes after former police commando Azilah Hadri, who has been convicted of the Mongolian translator’s murder, in an explosive October 17 statutory declaration (SD) said the then deputy prime minister had ordered the crime.
Najib took to Twitter today to say he will take the Muslim oath seeking divine retribution for those who lie at Masjid Jamek in Kg Baru after Friday prayers.
“I have the intention of performing the ‘sumpah laknat’ to deny the allegation by convicted killer Azilah Hadri, who accused me of ordering the killing of Altantuya.
“I will do this at Masjid Jamek in Kg Baru this Friday after (Friday) prayers.”
At Masjid Jamek Guar Perahu in Permatang Pauh, Penang, in August 2008, Najib swore that he did not know and had nothing to do with Altantuya.
In 2015, he performed the “sumpah laknat” again.
Altantuya was killed some time between the night of October 19, 2006 and the early hours of the following day.
Azilah and his colleague, Sirul Azhar Umar, were found guilty in 2009 and sentenced to death in 2015.
Azilah is seeking a retrial, and the Federal Court has fixed April 20 next year to hear his review application.
A year prior to his conviction, Sirul fled to Australia, and has been held at a Sydney detention centre since.
Najib has dismissed Azilah’s SD as a political conspiracy, yesterday urging that the case be reopened so as to clear his name.
The former prime minister has filed an application to intervene in Azilah’s review bid.
Najib is also accused of involvement in the murder in a civil suit filed by businessman Deepak Jaikishan and the wife of the late private investigator P. Balasubramaniam. – December 18, 2019.
