SUNGAI Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos has called off plans to lay a caveat on the sale of the Selangor Umno building now that the deal to sell has been called off.

Selangor Umno leaders decided not to proceed with the sale following pressure from several factions within the party, Jamal said.

“Selangor Umno has decided not to follow through with the intent to sell the building,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Jamal called off the caveat plans after discussions with other state division leaders and on the advice of senior party leader Noh Omar.

Noh proposed a special meeting to discuss and resolve other issues that had cropped up, he said.

“Noh proposed and urged the leadership to call all division chiefs and to raise the matter at the management meeting.

“I hope the leadership can call for a meeting immediately,” he said.

Jamal said the sale, which was proposed to ease the party’s financial troubles, was cancelled for the wellbeing and unity of party members.

He was one of three division leaders who refused to sign the agreement for the sale of the asset, as he saw it as a symbol of the party’s strength.

The two other division chiefs against the sale were Puchong Umno chief Mohamed Satim Diman and Hulu Langat Umno chief Johan Abd Aziz.

Selangor Umno is facing financial difficulties after its accounts were frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over alleged links to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Jamal proposed the sale of other assets to resolve the problem.

The Malaysian Insight reported previously that a bank and a hotel have expressed interest to rent the building.

However, as of June this year, the sole occupant is Selangor Umno. – December 18, 2019.
