TWO workers of a popular nasi kandar restaurant in Penang were arrested yesterday for lodging a false police report that they were robbed of the eatery’s takings amounting to RM122,555.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said the duo, a local man and an Indian national employed as cashier and auditor at the food outlet, have been remanded until December 16.
Yesterday the two workers lodged a report claiming that two men on a motorcycle had robbed them of the restaurant’s three-day takings at Lebuh Nipah 2, Sungai Nibong at about 12pm.
They reported that the two men, wearing police vests and claiming to be policemen, pointed a knife and a pistol at one of them, while they were they were on the way to the bank on a motorcycle to deposit the money into the company’s account.
However, further investigations raised suspicion and the duo finally admitted that the incident was mere fabrication and that no such incident took place.
They revealed that the RM122,555 was actually hidden in a Perodua Kancil and the money was later recovered by the police. – Bernama, December 10, 2019.
