There was a plot to disrupt the PKR youth congress on Friday, said its chief, Akmal Nasir.

“Last night, an informant told me there was a plan to create chaos at the youth congress,” he said during the closing of the 14th PKR congress at the Malacca International Trade Centre today.

A WhatsApp’s message purportedly said: “One more need to make up a group of 30 hardcore people. Bring Tony and Syamel along. I will lock the door and propose a no-confidence motion against Akmal. I want a group of hardcore willing to fight.”

Akmal said he has passed the information to the police.

“But who are these people who want to tarnish the party’s image? This samseng (gangster) culture is not ours.”

The youth congress was marred by two separate fights between party volunteers a group of youths in black T-shirts who attempted to storm the meeting’s venue.

Akmal also took the opportunity to attack PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“There are those who pretend to strategise and be a middle-man but is actually trying to break up the party. They pretend to be leaders but don’t even care enough for the party to attend meetings.

“And there are those who pretend to fight for the party but seek profit and opportunity. They pretend to be busy but don’t work.

“And there are those who pretend to be cool but keep attacking us. These people are traitors of the party,” said Akmal.

Azmin met more than a dozen Barisan Nasional MPs on November 19 without the knowledge of Pakatan Harapan leaders.

The deputy president has also been cited for failing to attend any central leadership council (MPP) and political bureau meeting. – December 8, 2019.
