Cops urge 8 to come forward over PKR Youth ruckus

POLICE today distributed the photographs of eight individuals urging them to come forward to help in investigations over the ruckus at the PKR Youth National Congress here yesterday.

Melaka police chief DCP Mat Kasim Karim said the individuals must go promptly to the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters in Bandar Hilir to help in investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting using weapons.

“I hope all those involved in the riot yesterday will step forward to help in police investigations. I also want to advise all participants in the conference to be more disciplined and professional,” he said in a statement in Melaka today.

Yesterday, the congress, which was attended by 1,000 delegates at the Malacca International Trade Centre was marred by a ruckus, triggering a fight among supporters and injuring two individuals.

Meanwhile, on the two men who were detained yesterday to assist in investigations, Mat Kasim said one of them had a drug record.

Both have been remanded two days for further investigations.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that two groups in the youth wing were involved in the incident – those in blue shirts and another in black shirts.

“The first incident took place yesterday at 8.25am and the next one at 12.30pm,” he added. – Bernama, December 7, 2019.
