DELEGATES at this week’s Umno general assembly have been urged to support a proposed amendment to the party constitution to elevate the Wanita head’s status to that of deputy president.

Noraini Ahmad, who leads the wing, said it is time that the women in Umno are recognised for their role in building up the party, as well as for a paradigm shift in party politics.

“It is time for women leaders to be acknowledged and given greater recognition in the party.

“I urge all delegates to give their mandate to the leadership and support the move to make the position of the Wanita Umno head on a par with the party deputy president,” she said in her opening speech at the Wanita gathering at Putra World Trade Centre today.

Currently, the Wanita head has the status of party vice-president.

The vote to amend the Umno charter will be held during the general assembly, which will go on till Saturday. – December 5, 2019.
