TOLL concessionaire PLUS will be compensated for allowing four of its tolls to be scrapped but this will not be in cash, said Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani.

Speaking to the media after the tabling of Budget 2018 this evening, Johari said the government is looking at extending the contract of the toll operator.

“Basically we will structure some of the existing tolls that we have not abolished. Maybe we will extend a little bit to compensate for the toll that we have abolished,” he said.

On the figures and amount involved in the dealing between government and PLUS, Johari said Putrajaya is working on it.

“We have to work based on the ratio,” he said.

On the abolishment of the two tolls in Selangor, Johari said it will benefit 140,000 motorists.

Prime Minister Najib Razak, in his budget speech in Parliament today, said four tolls in Selangor, Kedah and Johor will be abolished by January 2018.

The tolls are Batu Tiga and Sg Rasau in Selangor, Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah and Eastern Dispersal Link, Johor. – October 27, 2017.
