PKR Youth today welcomed the decision to proceed with the traditional practice of having the deputy president officiate at the annual congresses of the youth and Wanita wings.

The decision was made by the party’s political bureau this evening, overturning its previous decision to have former PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to officiate the youth wing’s congress on Friday.

PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir said the decision was made in the interest of the party.

“During the meeting earlier, we put the party’s interest above everything else.

“Azmin has also given his commitment earlier that he would attend our congress,” he told reporters.

Previously, the youth wing snubbed Azmin in favour of Wan Azizah, almost causing an alternate party congress to be held by Azmin’s faction.

Today was also the first political bureau meeting which Azmin attended, a sign of a thaw in ties between him and party president Anwar Ibrahim in time for the party’s annual congress this weekend. – December 4, 2019.
