DRIVERS who have thrice failed the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) test because of comprehension and language difficulties can opt for the oral exam instead, said Anthony Loke.

“Those who have failed three times will be given special courses. Those who face comprehension issues in the written test can take the oral examination,” said the transport minister during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to Fong Kui Lun (PH-Bukit Bintang), who asked how the government will help drivers unable to pass the PSV test.

Loke said 91,978 drivers have obtained the PSV licence, and that 42,818 failed the test as of Monday.

“However, the 42,818 is only a cumulative figure, as many of them retook the PSV test and passed.

“The total number of active PSV licences for taxis and buses is 358,944. The total number of taxi PSV licences is 28,860.”

He added that Putrajaya is planning a trial in the Klang Valley for motorcycle e-hailing services.

“There will be a trial period. This pilot project will allow us to see how it works and find out the related problems.

“As for women passengers, we are working to see how apps can match a woman passenger to a woman driver, for safety reasons.”

He was replying to a question by Mastura Mohd Yazid (BN-Kuala Kangsar) on whether there will be new laws governing motorcycle e-hailing services and how the government plans to protect female passengers. – December 4, 2019.
