MIZAN Adli Mohd Noor will still chair the PKR Youth (AMK) congress although he has been sacked as the wing’s permanent chairman.

Mizan said his status as the permanent chairman is constitutional as he was picked in last year’s National Congress Assembly.

“I will chair the AMK National Congress Assembly. That is the trust given by the delegates and I will shoulder the responsibility, and if they want to replace me, they can make the suggestion during the upcoming congress,” he told the Malaysian Insight.

Last week, AMK sacked Mizan and his deputy Mohd Ramly Ahmad on the basis that they are above the age of 35, thus breaching the age of eligibility for the posts.

Some AMK leaders branded the sacking as unlawful as it was made outside of the congress.

Mizan also questioned PKR’s leadership, which has yet to make any official statements on the issue.

“I have not been told either from the youth leadership or the central committee leadership on my termination as AMK permanent chairman. I only received an email on the official letter,” he added.

Mizan said the termination is against the party’s constitution and is a desperate attempt by some in the party to use the AMK national congress for their own political interests.

“Under the constitution or the AMK standing orders, there is no provision to allow the central committee or the AMK central committee to sack the permanent chairman and his deputy.

“We were picked in the congress, the highest authority in the party. We can only be removed through the congress,” he said.

“The permanent chairman and his deputy is part of the congress as stipulated under clause 10 in the standing order.

“Therefore, the party’s election committee allowed our nomination to contest in the last congress because both positions are not tied to the age factor under the AMK leadership structure,” he explained. – December 3, 2019.
