AirAsia launches fast-food outlet with focus on Asean fare

AIRASIA today launched the Santan Restaurant and T&CO Cafe, offering popular dishes from the leading low-cost carrier’s in-flight menu.

Group CEO Tony Fernandes said the decision to open the eatery followed high demand for meals served on board AirAsia flights.

“We found the airline food at AirAsia to be popular, so with this restaurant, it is a chance for everyone to try out the food… There has never been a fast-food restaurant focused on the menus of the different Asean countries.

“I believe this uniqueness will draw people from all over the world,” he told reporters after jointly launching the eatery at Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur with Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Among the dishes offered are nasi lemak, chicken rice, Cambodian fish noodles, and Inasa chicken with onion rice, which can be selected from “smart menus”.

The eatery’s general manager, Catherine Goh, said there are plans to open another five outlets by the end of next year.

She added that 100 franchise-operated restaurants and cafes are expected to open within the next three to five years, with global expansion on the cards. – Bernama, December 2, 2019.
