BATU lawmaker Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua, was released from jail today after serving a one-month sentence for refusing to obey a police order during the Bersih 3.0 rally in 2012.
He walked out of the Kajang Prison around 9am today and was received by supporters.
The PKR vice-president withdrew his appeal on September 29, saying he was willing to go prison “under a repressive and corrupt system” to highlight the wrongs of the government.
He was charged with trespassing a “protected area”, the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) following the rally but said he had, in fact, been brought there against his will.
He appealed against the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to uphold the Sessions Court’s sentence of one month’s jail and a fine of RM1,000. – October 27, 2017.
